Abstract:

Objective(s): Phytochemicals such as polyphenols, alkaloids, and terpenoids, protect against the development of early stages and complications of diabetes mellitus according to various reports. The aim of this study was to measure the anti-dyslipidemic and anti-diabetic effects of Citral on high-fat-diet (HFD) and streptozotocin (STZ) induced diabetic dyslipidemic rats and to see also its effect on carbohydrate metabolic regulatory enzymes in the liver.  Materials and Methods: Rats were kept on a high-fat diet for 2 weeks, then diabetes was induced by a single dose of STZ (35 mg/kg/BW, intraperitoneally), Citral was administered orally at a dose of 45 mg/kg/BW for 28 days to diabetic rats. Blood glucose, plasma insulin, and lipid profile in blood were studied. Antioxidant activities were assayed in the liver, pancreas, and adipose tissues. Carbohydrate metabolic enzymes of the liver were also studied in diabetic dyslipidemic rats. Results: The results of this study confirmed that administration of Citral significantly (P

Effect of maternal variable stress on oxidative status and glucose metabolism in pubertal male rats

Introduction: Metabolic disorders are affected by negative stress experiences in the early stages of life. Accordingly, in this study, the effects of stress during pregnancy on oxidative status and glucose homeostasis in pubertal male Wistar rats were investigated. Materials and Methods: After pregnancy, female rats (200±30 g) were divided into 2 groups (6 rats per group) of stress and non-stre...

Modulatory effects of naringin on hepatic key enzymes of carbohydrate metabolism in high fat diet fed-low dose of streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats

We evaluated the modulatory effects of naringin on altered hepatic key enzymes of carbohydrate metabolism in high fat diet fedlow dose of streptozotocin induced diabetic rats. Oral treatment of naringin at a doses of 20, 40 and 80 mg/kg body weight to diabetic rats for 30 days resulted in a significant reduction in the levels of plasma glucose, blood glycosylated hemoglobin and increase in the ...

Hepatic Oxidative Damages and Glucose Tolerance in Diabetic Rats Exposed to Repeated Oral Doses of Diazinon

Background: Environmental pollutants including organophosphate insecticides impair glucose metabolism by altering hepatic oxidation and play an important role in the development of diabetes and its complications. The aim of this study was to assess the impacts of repeated oral doses of Diazinon, an organophosphate insecticide, which is known to impair the glucose metabolism and its tolerance th...
